What I'm Reading Now... #AmReading #Vampire Novels

I first watched the movie, Vampire Academy, about a year or so ago. I liked it, even though it was a bit cheesy in some parts, and rushed in a lot of others. There seemed to be a lot of questions that weren't being answered by the movie, little things that just seemed odd or out of place. I liked it enough, though, that I wanted to read the books, because I figured there had to be more to the story.

I ended up getting the whole six book series on sale for about half price, so now I'm reading the first book. I'm only about six chapters in, but I'm already noticing how much was left out of the movie. Not only that, they changed stuff in the movie that they really didn't need to. I can see now why they didn't end up making the second movie (they couldn't get the funding). When will they learn that straying from the original story too far will kill you?

Anyway... I'm really enjoying the first book so far. It will probably take me about a month and a half to two months to read the whole thing, so I'll give you more next month. In the meantime, here it is if you want to check it out for yourself.

Enter the complete saga of the international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead—soon to be a major motion picture!

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth’s magic. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever.

Which Greek God is Your Soulmate? #Love #Quiz

I love doing quizzes! They're so much fun, so once a month, I want to share a fun quiz with my readers. This one is called Which Greek God is Your Soulmate? This one was pretty accurate for me.

My result is below:

Your soulmate is Hermes!

Your soulmate is Hermes, and your predominant psychological trait is Vitality.

You are happy, optimistic, and realistic. You find being yourself rewarding, and tend to trust your own judgment. You keep a positive attitude, you radiate joy, and you know how to enjoy life. Your motto is: “Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but the ability to start over.” That’s why your soulmate is Hermes. He was the Messenger of the Gods. He moved freely between the worlds of the mortal and divine. That trickster outwitted gods for his own satisfaction or the sake of humankind. In your past life, a majestic palace was created for you and Hermes, and the gods granted their command that you two should die at the same moment.

So, which Greek God is your soulmate? How accurate is it? Tell me in the comments below!

Character Profile: Kira Daviron #Fantasy #Romance

Kira Daviron is one of the main characters in the Assassin Fantasy Romance I'm in the process of writing.

Kira lives in a land that is run by warlords. Hostilities and coups are a constant in her world, but as the daughter of a wealthy warlord, she has lived a fairly sheltered life on his large estate. Her life of luxury and being pampered has made her spoiled and demanding.

On the surface she appears very shallow, but when she loses everything she's ever known, she finds a strength within herself she never knew she had. No one could have ever guessed there was a fierce warrior buried within that spoiled princess.

#Grammar Tips: They're vs. Their vs. There

These get confused quite often, but once you learn the difference they're pretty easy to remember.

'They're' is a contraction of 'they are':

The way I've always remembered this one is if you replace they're with they are and it doesn't work, then you know it's not that one.

They're cat is white.

They are cat is white. <--- wrong, because they are doesn't fit this sentence

They're is the bakery.

They are is the bakery. <--- wrong, because they are doesn't fit this sentence

They're going to the store.

They are going to the store. <--- right, because they are does fit this sentence

'Their' shows possession:

Their is the bakery. <--- wrong, because the sentence does not refer to the owner of the bakery

Their going to the store. <--- wrong, because the sentence does not refer to the owner of the store

Their cat is white. <--- right, because the sentence refers to the owner of the cat

'There' is used to point out a location:

There going to the store. <--- wrong, because the sentence isn't pointing out the store's location

There cat is white. <--- wrong, because the sentence isn't pointing out the cat's location

There is the bakery. <--- right, because the sentence is pointing out the bakery's location

So if these have given you issues in the past, see if you can pick the right words in the sentence below using your newfound knowledge:

They're/Their/There going to watch they're/their/there friends race over they're/their/there.

Bound to the Battle God: A #Fantasy #Romance by Ruby Dixon

When I went to my neighbor's apartment to investigate strange sounds, I never expected to fall through a portal into another world. Yet here I am, a stranger in an even stranger land...and I'm stranded. In this world, might makes right, men carry swords, and gods walk the earth. Within minutes of arriving, I’m enslaved.

Fun place.

How do I get home? GREAT question. Wish I had an answer.

The one person that might be able to help me is also the one person I want to throttle most. Aron, Lord of Storms, Butcher God of Battle, is my new companion. Or rather, I'm his. As Aron's anchor to the mortal realm, I'm the one that's supposed to be guiding him through his exile in the mortal world.

Ha. Joke's on him. I know nothing about this place.

But Aron and I have a common goal - get home. And we're bonded - anchor and god - with a bond unlike any other. So we travel together. We bicker. We bathe together. We fight our many, many enemies together. And sure, he’s a god, but he’s also an arrogant jerk. Brawny, smoking hot, irresistible jerk. I should want nothing to do with him. I certainly shouldn’t want to do things to him.

Mortals and gods don’t mix. We stick to the plan and ignore our attraction. Focused, with one goal in mind.

One task. One goal.

Focused.

I—oh heck, I’m going to end up kissing him again, aren’t I?

The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken #Paranormal #Romance

To touch a Dark One is death.
To talk to an immortal is suicide.
Yet, I've been marked by both.
A Vampire.
And the King of the immortals.
My life is no longer my own.
And now I know the truth, my life was never mine to begin with.
It was theirs.
It's always been theirs.

#IWSG Getting a Feel for #Paranormal #Romance

I have been reading a lot of paranormal romance books recently, and I'm finding a lot of my ideas are nothing like what I'm reading. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I know it's good to have unique ideas, but I also know that people like to read certain things and my ideas might not fit with this. Of course, it could also be that other authors writing in this genre have fallen so deeply into the current trend that they haven't bothered writing anything else.

It's hard to tell.

What do you think? Do you think it's okay to break from current trends and do something different, or have you found that it tends to turn people off?

What is IWSG?

It's a great way to connect with other writers!

The purpose of IWSG is to provide a way for writers to express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. On the first Wednesday of every month, you can post about your thoughts, doubts and fears, discuss your struggles and triumphs, and encourage other who are struggling.

Visit the Insecure Writer’s Support Group Website to get started!
